Our Track
The track was completed in 1976, formally opened in 1977 and rebuilt in 1994.
The society has full Insurance against accidents to the public for members and visitors.
All steam locomotives must be in possession of a current boiler certificate containing test details as recommended by
the Southern Federation of Model Engineers.
The Track is 703 feet long and is kidney shaped, it has 3½ and 5 inch gauge track and the minimum height of the rail from
the ground is 2 feet.
The maximum gradient is 1:100 and the minimum curve is 40 feet radius.
The track super elevation is 5/16 of an inch pivoted about the centre of the 5” gauge track with full geometry transient curves.
There are 5 steaming bays each 10 feet long 50% of them for 5 inch only to permit ashpan removal.
Water, coal and oil are available at the steaming bays.
There are a limited number of braked trucks
available with 3½ and 5 inch gauge drawbars.
