FOUNDED 1946
The Portsmouth Model Engineering Society was founded in 1946. The Society originally incorporated Model Boats, Planes and Cars but these gradually broke away to form their own successful clubs. We hold formal meetings on the first Friday of each month, from September to April at 7.30pm in the Eastney Community Centre, Bransbury Road where we have a talk from other members or outside speakers. Informal meetings from May to August at the Bransbury Park Track from 6.30pm onwards. These meetings are used for members to try out their locomotives or other club activities.
Our members have a broad interest ranging from locomotives in all gauges powered by steam or electricity. Also interests in traction engines, stationary engines, internal combustion engines, hot air engines, clock making and more. Our members come from all walks of life, so if you are interested, why not come along to one of our meetings.
New Members Required
As our numbers are dwindling, we would welcome new members of any age. We predict that this Society may not last more than another ten years because our present membership is over fifty years of age or more. It seems that people are not interested in model engineering. Locomotives, both steam and electric, are not the only interests in the club but also internal combustion engines, hot air engines, clockmaking and toolmaking as well as anything that involves metal. Please make yourself known to us at the track on a Running Day or come along to our meetings, times and days as shown above. |
